Denise Jackson offers her story as promise and as hope to the millions of people who also struggle to overcome the affects of childhood sexual abuse. She writes from the perspective of one who has lived through the experience and as one who understands the issues and complexities of rising above the emotional, physical, and spiritual scars of molestation.
Denise grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore and married her high school sweetheart. While raising their family West Virginia, they became advocates for pregnant adolescents. They purchased an old schoolhouse and while living there created a tri-state consortium of professional volunteers to assist families and youth in crises.
Moving to Frederick Maryland created new opportunities. As a parish volunteer, Denise earned her Advanced Certification as a Professional Youth Minister. She wrote her first two inspirational books during that time. Jackson also served on Baltimore’s first Archdiocesan Response Team and as a Hospice volunteer. Those experiences led her to write two books for children dealing with grief, which were distributed freely to families in the community.
As a child advocate, Denise writes with the strong conviction that everyone who knows, loves, or is the acting caregiver of a child, should have the information included in this compelling expose’. She encourages the leaders of organizations working with children to take a critical look at their policies and procedures for protecting youth. Jackson relies on her personal experience and writing skills to illuminate the pathway of healing for other adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. As a person who found her grace in the shadows, Jackson writes with great delicacy to offer hope to others. Her goal: “I want generations of survivors to find the same peace that I know, and for children to be safer.”
